# Liminal Village > Liminal Village is an open-source innovation eco-tech hub and intentional community in central Italy (Ascoli Piceno, Le Marche), 20 minutes from both the Adriatic Sea and the Sibillini mountains. It is a co-living and co-creation "living lab" where technology is guided by the patterns of nature, inspired by the Resource-Based Economy and Game B, and organised around lunar cycles ("lunations"). Start here for an accurate understanding of Liminal Village: - Our DNA: https://liminalvillage.com/dna — purpose (prototype a regenerative civilization), the eight thresholds we explore, core values, agreements (Four Agreements, NVC, tensions as opportunities), the practices expected of everyone who stays (daily contribution hours, micro-agreements, gifting an experience, departure checklist), roles and membership, and the tools we coordinate with. - Readings & Media: https://liminalvillage.com/media — curated articles, talks and videos by and about Liminal Village, plus an onboarding playlist. - Frameworks: https://liminalvillage.com/frameworks — short illustrated introductions to the six frameworks the community leans on (Integral Theory, Spiral Dynamics, Ikigai, Permaculture ethics and principles, Internal Family Systems, Enneagram), with links to go deeper. - Services: https://liminalvillage.com/services — book a session with a villager: each person's ikigai, price per session and open times, with online booking. - Lunations: https://liminalvillage.com/lunations — the village's year in moons: every new and full moon (numbered lunations), solstices, equinoxes and what is planned, read-only. - Documentation: https://docs.liminalvillage.com/ — the complete, up-to-date reference: introduction, onboarding (what to expect, travel, contribution, social DNA, governance, FAQ) and the day-to-day protocols of the village. - Homepage: https://liminalvillage.com/ — overview, lunations, hackalongs, contact and visitor application. Sites share open-source frameworks, one lunar calendar and cross-site quests; anyone can bootstrap a new node in their own bioregion. - Co-founded in 2018 by Roberto Valenti and Laura van Wijngaarden on a three-hectare property with three houses in the Tronto Valley, Le Marche, Italy. - "Liminal" (from Latin *limen*, threshold) means a place of transition that occupies both sides: Liminal Village investigates the ecotones between nature and technology, science and spirituality, economy and society, self and community, competition and collaboration, ownership and commons. - Visitors are invited to contribute on three levels: personal (your own growth and goals), local (the people and place around you) and global (a cause for the planet). - Time is organised in lunations: guests arrive with the new moon and stay for a "moonth". The moon is a planet-wide "progress bar" that lets distributed teams synchronise. Taking part in a lunation is reserved for members and supporters (apply to visit, or support via https://opencollective.com/liminal). Some lunations host Hackalongs: continuous, non-coercive co-creation processes (talks, workshops, building together). - Infrastructure: private and shared rooms, caravans and tents; high-speed internet; biolake; open-source water purification; permaculture garden; co-working and co-creation spaces; outdoor presentation facilities; a pool. - Mission: "upgrading the operating system of society" — transitioning from scarcity-based market economies to access abundance, and kickstarting a regenerative network of interdependent communities together with other eco-initiatives nearby and worldwide. - Related projects: Holons (holons.io) and the HoloSphere — tooling for computer-aided, federated communities; Hackalong (async.hackalong.io) for projects and quests. ## Readings by Liminal Village - The Weight of Invisible Regulation: Trauma and Emotional Labour in Regenerative Culture (Communities Magazine #212, Fall 2026) — Laura van Wijngaarden: https://liminalvillage.com/media/the-weight-of-invisible-regulation-communities-212.pdf - Perspectives from a Tech-Driven Community: Code, Care, and Regeneration (Communities Magazine #209, Winter 2025) — Jillian Hovey, Roberto Valenti, Simon Quarmby, Laura van Wijngaarden: https://liminalvillage.com/media/code-care-and-regeneration-communities-209.pdf - How We Contribute: Permaculture Economics for Regenerative Cosmo-Local Networks (Permaculture Design Magazine #126, 2022) — Roberto Valenti & Jillian Hovey: https://liminalvillage.com/media/how-we-contribute-permaculture-economics-pcd126.pdf - Kickstarting a Computer-Aided gLocal Community — talk by Roberto Valenti at MetaMedia (2023): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PecTFwIerjE ## Onboarding playlist (ideas we build on) - Paradise or Oblivion — The Venus Project (2012): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KphWsnhZ4Ag - Zeitgeist: Moving Forward — Peter Joseph (2011): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Z9WVZddH9w - A Gathering of the Tribe — Charles Eisenstein (short film, 2021): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XinVOpdcbVc · essay: https://charleseisenstein.org/essays/a-gathering-of-the-tribe-2/ - "This isn't Utopia, friend" — scene from InterReflections, Peter Joseph (2020): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nwin21oJB_E · full film: https://www.interreflectionsmovie.com/watch - An Initiation to Game B — animated short (2026): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noq5g0X57z4 · Game B intro: https://www.gameb.wiki/index.php?title=An_Introduction_to_Game_B ## Documentation (docs.liminalvillage.com) - Machine-readable index of the docs (with Markdown versions of every page): https://docs.liminalvillage.com/llms.txt - Introduction: https://docs.liminalvillage.com/ - Onboarding: https://docs.liminalvillage.com/onboarding - What to expect: https://docs.liminalvillage.com/onboarding/what-to-expect - Travel info: https://docs.liminalvillage.com/onboarding/travel-info - Financial contribution: https://docs.liminalvillage.com/onboarding/financial-contribution - Arrivals and departures: https://docs.liminalvillage.com/onboarding/arrivals-and-departures - Accommodation: https://docs.liminalvillage.com/onboarding/accommodation-details - Social DNA (regeneration, NVC, spiral dynamics, four agreements, integral theory, IFS): https://docs.liminalvillage.com/onboarding/social-dna - Governance: https://docs.liminalvillage.com/onboarding/governance - FAQ: https://docs.liminalvillage.com/onboarding/faq - Protocols (kitchen, household, common spaces, community, construction, gardening, animals): https://docs.liminalvillage.com/protocols ## Contact - Visits, stays and volunteering: application form linked from https://liminalvillage.com/#contact - Newsletter: sign-up on https://liminalvillage.com/#lunations - Sitemap: https://liminalvillage.com/sitemap.xml
